After learning that switching the various shipment method Option Set fields to a single global option set was not possible, I did as the forum suggested and revised the descriptions and labels. I started every set with Other, and then added the various freight options specified by the shipping department. All saved and published without error, and in the settings the labels and descriptions I entered are there.
Today I prepared to demonstrate typical campaign activities. I started to prepare a Quote, and when I clicked the drop-down for shipping method I find the first seven labels of MY list replaced with the seven labels that CRM 2015 shipped with. (Instead of Other the old Airborne is back).
I suspect that I have violated yet another unwritten rule.
Was I expected to replace the value number (1-7) with one of the numbers on the order of 10,000?
An amusing side note: You can't get Airborne to ship anything since 2008, DHL bought them and spun off the air freight as ABX. They might as well have used Pony Express.
