Word templates in CRM Online 2016

Hi, Word templates is a nice new feature, easier than mail merge. I have transferred some of our old documents to new Word template but I come across one, probably simple, issue I cannot solve. I have fields with multiple lines in CRM that have line breaks. When I transfer this over to Word I loose this formatting, naturaly because of plain text formatting. This was solved in our old mail merge template. I understand that this needs to be fixed in XML but this is not my strong side.
