Word Document Template: Repeating Sub Entity without Table

Have you found a way to insert records from a sub-entity without using a table?  We would prefer to have columns of data--or, better yet--a list within a paragraph.  For instance, we can add a table of states that has a row each for Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana.  We would rather be able to display the states inline within a paragraph as "Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana" or as a series of columns.

Any way to do this?
