Calling external WS - from CRM

Hi

1. What is the best practice for calling a WS , while loading a page ? can it be done using only actions or it will required also JS and plugins ?

2. I want to present the data return from the WS on screen but not to save all of it , what is the recommendation for this? using HTML/Silverlight page?
