how to see where a contact record was created

My system has lots of duplicates and I would like to see where they are coming from. They are all owned by a single user which makes me think there is some process running in her name that generates contacts from a web form or an import somewhere but I can't find it. When i look at the auditing pane on a contact record it just states that it was created by this user. Is there anyway to get a bit more detail? How would I find if this user triggered a workflow that might have created these contacts?
