Updating records through import - how can I generate a checksum value?

My organisation has an MRP system that works very well for quoting, order taking, etc.  It struggles to provide any meaningful CRM functionality, so we are evaluating Dynamics CRM with a view to moving that functionality away from the MRP.  A major consideration is the transfer of quote and order data from the MRP system in to CRM.  I have successfully automated this process for new records being added to the MRP and then being imported into CRM.

Where the process is letting me down is the ability to update revised records from the MRP in CRM automatically.  One approach I am considering is extracting the updated records and creating an XML file - like the one created when exporting records in CRM with a view to reimporting. As a concept this was working well until I came across the checksum field in the XML file.

So my question is:  Is it possible to generate this Checksum value from the data in the record?  If it isn't can anyone suggest a way in which I might achieve my goal?

Cheers,

John
