Unable to enter opportunities due to info not being processed

When I try and create a new sales opportunity, I cannot correctly load and search for contacts and advertisers. Much of the time, I will type in a contact name, agency or advertiser, and after typing the name out and pressing the search button, the search box will simply grey out, and I will be unable to edit the text box. See below for an example:

 

This means that I cannot create and save sales opportunities and bookings - my records are not pulling through and being identified with any account, so when I try to save the opportunity, I get the message:

"The Lookup could not be resolved to a record in the system. You must select the record for the system to use."

When I have managed to get in to create Line Items after saving the initial information, I end up unable to calculate revenue from the cost per thousand and volume entered. I believe this is for the same problem (i.e. information entered not actually registering with the system.

This only occurs on the computer systems of the media owner I work for. It does not occur on computers at other offices or on my personal laptop (using internet explorer for all of them).

IT at my office are unable to help and don't know what the problem is. Any help?
