Error has been detected in the file xxxx.ost. What to do next?

Hi,

Usually this type of error indicates corruption issues in the OST file. You can repair your OST file just by following below mentioned steps;

  • Select the OST file on your machine
  • Right click on the folder containing the file and select properties.
  • Select the "Clear Offline Items" tab
  • Finally,Click on OK tab.
  • Start Outlook and hit the Send/Receive tab.
  • Hit the "Update Folder"
  • Now delete the OST file.

Next time when Outlook synchronizes with Exchange, a new OST will be created and all data within the Exchange mailbox will be downloaded into it.This new OST file will be free from corruption issues. This method though very effective. Moreover, this is not a guaranteed method of repairing OST file.

Sometimes this type of error arises if there is corruption in your Outlook profile. In this case, you can create a new default Outlook profile.
