Choosing the Correct team

I have some managers that want to create a dashboard that just shows the users they manage. Currently users are only grouped by their business unit. However some of the business units have more than one manager. Filtering views by Business unit is thus ineffective cause it will still show users some of the managers don't manage. For Example, East Coast might be the business unit but Jack, John, and Bob all manage different users in that business unit. I want to make a Team for each manager under the business unit. Then create views to show "current team" so I can make one dashboard that each manager can use while only seeing their team's opportunity and account views. I'm just a little confused on the difference between Owning team and Access team. I don't want to change anything security wise.
