KB3173711 - what is that?

We are currently troubleshooting issues with our Outlook CRM 2013 SP1 client.

A while ago, someone in our organisation created an installation manual for the Outlook CRM client which instructs to install the update 3173711 (which updates MSCRM to version 6.1.4.173).

Article 3173711 isn’t mentioned in “Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 updates and hotfixes”. We are wondering what this fix is for and if we should probably remove it from the installation instruction manual.

KB3173711 is publicly available here, but there are no details to what it is for and the linked “more information about this release” page doesn’t exist. Does anyone know what this patch is for and if you would recommend to install it?

We are concerned that we might end up with a very uncommon or even unsupported client version that could potentially end up with issues that only a very few organisations might face as well.
