How could be replaced deprecated addOnKeyPress and showAutoComplete?

Could someone advise me how to replace the following deprecated client APIs:

1. addOnKeyPress/removeOnKeyPress - suggested replacement is: "Use a custom control";
2. showAutoComplete/hideAutoComplete - suggested replacement is: "Use a custom control and corresponding UI".
