Dynamics 2011 email router Windows 8

I am trying to set up a pilot for a customer where we use both Office 365 and Dynamics 2011 together. All is working so far but I need to run the Dynamics Email Router software to set up the email configuration but I only have a Windows 8 laptop and I can't get the package to run on there - it crashes with errors about filename and directory being invalid. I have the same problem if I try to run the Outlook CRM install on Windows 8 - it crashes with an error about installing SQL Server Express 2008.
