How to assign latest related entity record to a parent field value

Hi All,

   I am created a plugin, I have a related entity that can be created once the parent entity record is created. Now, i want to assign a field on the parent entity to the value of field from the LATEST(most recent) related entity record created. I just do not know how to tell the IDE to check for the latest. Some with more experience please help out. Thanks
